Hi! I am Rakib Islam

a registered counsellor and trauma-informed yoga teacher.

I believe that creating a meaningful and authentic life is important. Despite our best effort sometimes we can get stuck in cycles of behaviour or affected by situation we have no control over. In situations like that life can feel overwhelming and can demand a space for reflection and active processing of our experiences. Sometimes, we are able to cope with the resources we have in our lives including personal skills and wisdom, friends and family. However, in other times a wellbeing professional can offer the necessary support.

My personal journey towards finding my authentic self has been transformative, shaping the essence of what I offer as a counsellor to those seeking healing and growth. With a diverse background in interdisciplinary social science, psychology, and my personal interest in Eastern spiritual and philosophical traditions, my approach is an integrated one. I believe that integrating insights from modern psychology, social science, and Eastern philosophies and practices can yield greater benefits for healing and growth.

Counselling Services

I offer person-centred counselling services tailored to individuals from various cultural backgrounds, ensuring that the therapy is culturally appropriate and sensitive.

I use an integrative approach, drawing from EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), somatic approaches, IFS (Internal Family Systems), CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), expressive art, narrative, and feminist therapy.

My primary focus includes anxiety, depression, trauma, substance misuse, and spiritual and existential concerns. In addition to these, I work with other issues and CALD-specific issues. To learn more about my areas of interest and expertise, please click the link below.

A Setting to Suit You!

Collaboratively, we can determine the most suitable setting and therapeutic style that aligns with your preferences and needs. Depending on your requirements, we have the flexibility to transition between various settings and therapeutic approaches. Our therapy sessions are available in three distinct settings: private rooms, outdoor walk-and-talk sessions, and online sessions.

Indoor counselling and yoga sessions

Traditional counseling takes place in my office in Marrickville.

Outdoor counselling - walk & talk sessions

Walk & Talk sessions occurs outdoors, at a mutually agreed-upon location.

Online counselling sessions

Online or phone sessions allow you to log on or dial in from home or wherever you may be.
