Trauma-informed yoga and movement recognise the neurological effects of trauma, encompassing physical, psychological, emotional, and complex impacts. It acknowledges the common experience of survivors feeling disconnected from their bodies. This approach prioritises individuals and encourages exploration in a safe manner. The emphasis is on sensory perception, noticing sensations, and fostering choices that initiate a restoration of trust between body and mind.
Over time, trauma-informed yoga and movement practices can help survivors:
Enhance regulation of their nervous system
Decrease and effectively handle anxiety
Develop greater awareness of their bodies and a higher tolerance for physical sensations
Enhance psychological adaptability.
